The Centre for Community Journalism is proud to announce that Director of Community Journalism at Cardiff University Emma Meese has been included on a list of 158 inspiring women in local journalism by Behind Local News.
Emma was referred to as the voice hyperlocal journalism needs and was celebrated for delivering messages to the industry which it doesn’t want to hear on behalf of a diverse range of websites who, because they are so different, often want different things.
Emma set up and manages the Centre for Community Journalism and the Independent Community News Network.
She is passionate about giving community journalists access to the highest standard of training in digital and social media.
She works with news publishers, academics, governments, charities and businesses worldwide with the aim of strengthening and sustaining the community news sector.
Emma said: “I’m delighted to have been recognised amongst 158 women leading the way in local journalism in 2020.
“The list, compiled by Behind Local News, is a step in the right direction towards recognising the work women do in journalism on a daily basis.
“Women in leadership roles account for nearly one-quarter of ICNN members. We always strive for inclusivity and diversity in all we do and would love to see that percentage grow even higher.”
Emma was listed alongside regional editors, local democracy reporters, academics and innovators all who are doing exciting and innovative work in regional, local and hyperlocal journalism.
