ICNN Membership Benefits
As well as networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing; access to practical, technical, and business expertise, ICNN members benefit from being part of a group of news organisations that are recognised across the country for providing high-quality community news content via trusted platforms. ICNN has over 100 committed and passionate individuals and teams of journalists embedded in their communities holding power to account, contributing to media plurality, and helping to plug the democratic deficit caused by the decline in traditional local journalism.
ICNN membership is made up of journalists frustrated with the current media climate and who passionately want to affect positive change and those who were the original pioneers of the hyperlocal movement. From six months to 20 years old, our members come in all shapes and sizes, but all are committed to upholding high professional standards of accuracy, transparency, integrity, accountability, and fairness.
ICNN advocates and champions on behalf of these organisations in discussions with governments, third party organisations like the BBC and the NUJ, regulators, and charities, to increase the opportunities and reputation of this diverse sector.
Members of ICNN enjoy direct access to media law expert and co-author of McNae’s Essential Law for Journalists (20th ed), David Banks. David provides free consultations on individual media law issues from copyright, to qualified privilege; from defamation to complaints. David’s guidance has helped many of our members publish with confidence and accuracy, and without fear of repercussion.
We provide free access to a members-only private Facebook group to discuss all things community journalism, share tips, and ask other practitioners for advice.
We offer discounts on industry memberships such as the Society of Editors, and ICNN members are the only publishers who can access a unique revenue stream via the Ping! platform.
